I've heard these melodies so many times and had no idea who the composer was, Eric Satie. Awesome to find them. He referred to this slow repetitive melodies as "furniture music", clearly a precursor to modern ambient and house styles.

Speaking of interesting musical instruments :-) I love the Earth Harp and the other quirky instruments William Close's band plays. Some day I'll see him in concert!

This instrument is related to the Glass Harmonica. It was invented in 1952 by Bernard and François Baschet.

I first heard this in an episode of Endeavor, Season 4, Ep 1. It's haunting and playful at the same time.
